The match officials for Saturday’s Manchester derby between Manchester City and Manchester United have been announced by the Premier League.

It is a huge match for both sides, with United potentially ending the day in third place in the table, six points behind leaders Arsenal, with a victory.

City, meanwhile, could move to within two points of the Gunners, who face Tottenham in the north London derby on Sunday.

It will represent the second time United boss Erik ten Hag has faced City whilst in charge at Old Trafford, with the Red Devils losing 6-3 in the reverse fixture at the Etihad Stadium.

But they will feel confident of succeeding this time around, having won each of their last eight games in all competitions.

Here are the officials in charge of proceedings this Saturday at Old Trafford.

Man Utd vs Man City: Who are the match officials?

The Manchester derby will be officiated by experienced Premier League referee Stuart Attwell.

Attwell has taken charge of two United matches this season, but fans will not have fond memories of one game in particular. It was the 4-0 defeat at Brentford on the second matchday of the Premier League campaign. Four United players were given a yellow card on that day, with Bruno Fernandes booked for dissent and Harry Maguire, Marcus Rashford and Scott McTominay cautioned for fouls.

The other game was the 1-1 draw with Chelsea in October, when the Blues were awarded a late penalty after McTominay brought down Armando Broja.

But Ten Hag’s side scored a dramatic late equaliser, Casemiro heading home to secure a point.

United haven’t won any of the last three games Attwell has officiated them in, although he was the referee for their 3-1 win over Tottenham in October 2021, when Edinson Cavani scored a superb diving header.

Attwell became the youngest referee in Premier League history in 2008, and was named on the Select Group Referees list in 2016.
