Piers Morgan has been left with egg on his face after a tweet he sent out during Arsenal’s 3-1 defeat to Manchester City on Wednesday.
Kevin De Bruyne broke the deadlock in the first half at the Emirates with a stunning chipped finish over Aaron Ramsdale after a Takehiro Tomiyasu howler.
City’s win moved Pep Guardiola’s men top of the Premier League ahead of Arsenal, but the Gunners still have a match in hand and are level on points.
Arsenal fan Morgan took to Twitter and claimed the Gunners were “comprehensively outplaying” City, despite missing Thomas Partey and Gabriel Jesus from the starting XI.
“No Jesus, no Partey, and we’re still comprehensively outplaying the Champions [sic],” he tweeted.
“Brilliant stuff, Arsenal,” Morgan continued, adding a clapping emoji to his tweet.
However, fans were quick to pull no punches towards the TalkTV host over how poorly his tweet had aged after Arsenal’s defeat on the night.
One Twitter user sarcastically wrote: “Excellent win for the [sic] Arsenal tonight, Piers, well done!”
Another posted: “Yeah, brilliant stuff losing 3-1 and still comprehensively outplaying.”
A third fan tweeted: “Wheels [are] coming off the season, Piers, no doubt about it!”
“Man City were well on top all second half,” one fan said.
Someone else added: “Congratulations on the outplaying and losing trophy.”
Arsenal will travel to Villa Park on Saturday for their Premier League clash with Aston Villa, with kick-off slated for 12:30pm UK time.
City, meanwhile, will face Nottingham Forest at City Ground on Saturday in a 3pm kick-off ahead of their last-16 Champions League tie against RB Leipzig.
