phil-foden-reveals-his-‘odd’-hobby-that-most-of-his-teammates-don’t-understand

With plenty of time between training sessions, the England players at the 2022 World Cup have a great opportunity to pick up a new hobby or two in their down time.

For some that might be basketball, for others, Fortnite. Phil Foden, however, has a slightly different way of relaxing in-between games, although we doubt he’ll be giving this a go in Qatar.

According to Foden, he enjoys a spot of fishing when he’s not playing for Manchester City or England, a hobby he first got into as a youngster.

The attacker, who Gary Neville recently described as a ‘generational talent’, claims that most football lads don’t get it, but that it’s good for his legs when he wants to kick back and relax. To each their own, ay.

In a recent interview with Man City, he said: “The odd one is fishing, so when people find out they say: ‘What a weird sport to enjoy’. They don’t understand why you enjoy it.

“I think it’s the perfect hobby to rest your legs and have some down time.”

In fact, according to Foden, they regularly embark on trips across the UK and even Spain to set their lines in new waters.

Back to matters on the pitch, many England fans are still scratching their heads over Foden’s lack of involvement against the United States on Friday night (25 November).

His name trended on social media over the weekend, with plenty asking why, when England were in need of a goal, they didn’t turn to the Manchester City star who’s been in good form for his club this season.

One Twitter user wrote: “No Foden at all is absolutely criminal.”

Another simply added: “Can’t believe Foden isn’t on. Wasting one of the best players we have.”

He told reporters: “We didn’t feel it was right for Phil in the middle because he doesn’t play there for his club.”

England’s next game is against Wales on Tuesday, where they will be hoping to close out the group stage in style.

The 2018 World Cup Semi-finalists just need to avoid a heavy defeat to go through to the Round of 16, where they will likely play one of Senegal, Ecuador or the Netherlands.
