Match of the Day went ahead on Saturday WITHOUT Gary Lineker and pundits.

The programme was thrown into turmoil when it was announced on Friday that regular host Lineker would not be presenting the show due to a dispute with the BBC over his social media use.

Tonight’s show immediately started with highlights from Bournemouth vs. Liverpool.

In reaction to there being no intro, one Twitter user wrote: “Weird watching #MOTD with no music, no intro, no commentary or analysis.”

A second joked: “Even the MOTD intro music has opted out… This is like the Wetherspoons of football TV.”

A third wrote: “So not even the Match of the day intro song is played wtf??”

A fourth said: “Just turned on MOTD. It’s AWFUL no commentary over the game not even to say which game it is. No intro no MOTD music pointless watching it.”
