Manchester United’s treble-winning side from the 1998/99 season have been voted the greatest Premier League team of all-time.

SPORTbible put out a poll on Twitter asking the age-old question, with a whopping 235,776 votes cast overall.

And it was United who came out on top, accruing 34.6% of the votes. Arsenal’s ‘Invincibles’, who went 49 games unbeaten under Arsene Wenger, finished in second place with 32.5%.

The next two options were more modern, as Manchester City and Liverpool, the two best sides over the past five years, got their flowers.

City’s ‘Centurions’, who amassed a record 100 points in 2017/18 under Pep Guardiola, were third with 19.6% – with Jurgen Klopp’s title-winners two years later getting 13.3% for their 99-point campaign that brought a first league title for 30 years.

Of course plenty of people had something to say about the end result but few can deny the incredible achievements of Sir Alex Ferguson’s side in 1999.

United’s squad had a perfect blend of youth and experience in it, with David Beckham, Gary Neville, Paul Scholes, Phil Neville, Ryan Giggs and Nicky Butt all stepping up to the mark.

The Red Devils had four incredible strikers in Dwight Yorke, Andy Cole, Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

And one of the team’s biggest qualities was their never say die attitude and ability to come from behind to win games.

United also went a goal down to Arsenal in the FA Cup semi-final where Giggs scored a late winner, before beating Newcastle comfortably in the final.

United memorably scored twice in stoppage time to beat Bayern Munich in the Champions League final at the Nou Camp, with the game one of the most famous in football history.
