Manchester United are unlikely to sign Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher on loan on deadline day, according to a new report.

The possibility of a new signing coming through the doors at Old Trafford emerged earlier this week, after Erik ten Hag confirmed midfielder Christian Eriksen had suffered an ankle injury in the FA Cup fourth round win over Reading on Saturday.

It was revealed on Tuesday morning that the Dane is expected to be out until late April, which may cause United to make a move on deadline day.

One option could be Chelsea’s Gallagher, who has struggled for regular game time since the World Cup and has attracted interest from Everton and Crystal Palace.

But a move to Old Trafford will reportedly not happen.

That is said to include Newcastle and the Red Devils, with the Blues still hoping to return to the Champions League qualification fight with a series of good results.

Hope tweeted: “We’re told Conor Gallagher won’t be allowed to join rivals such as Newcastle and Manchester United on loan.

“A loan is still possible, and it could be that Crystal Palace come back into the reckoning, if the midfielder is told he can leave Chelsea.”
