Kylian Mbappe has been compared to Brazil icon Ronaldo after he ripped Australia apart in France’s World Cup opener.

The defending champions began their campaign with a convincing 4-1 win on Tuesday night.

Olivier Giroud scored twice to move level with Thierry Henry as France’s all-time top goalscorer, with 51 goals.

Adrien Rabiot and Mbappe also scored for Didier Deschamps’ side, who came from behind to win.

After the game, former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba compared Mbappe to Ronaldo, who won the World Cup twice with Brazil.

Drogba: Mbappe is a superstar

“He’s young, but he’s already mature,” Drogba told the BBC.

“The man is ready to be a superstar already. He’s really embracing this and proving it every weekend.

“We are seeing a bit of Ronaldo Nazario. We are seeing a bit of [Henry and Nicolas Anelka].”

Mbappe has been linked with both Liverpool and Manchester United in recent months amid reports he is unhappy at PSG.

Drogba expects the striker to move on from the Parc des Princes but not before he has won the Champions League with the French club.

“I think that’s what we all expect him to do,” added Drogba, when asked if he expected Mbappe to leave.

“But I know him a little bit and I know he wants to make a statement by winning the Champions League with Paris Saint-Germain.

“It will mean a lot for him and for the club as well.”

Mbappe’s immediate attention, however, will be on France’s next match against Denmark on Saturday.

The two-time champions will then face Tunisia in their final group match the following Wednesday.
