Manchester City defeated Sevilla 4-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday evening – but the home side were quick to mock how few fans City brought to Spain.
A brace from Erling Haaland and second half goals from Phil Foden and Ruben Dias ensured Pep Guardiola’s side opened Group G with a dominant victory.
City were allocated 2300 seats at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium according to the club’s website, but only filled 774 of those.
Sevilla’s official English Twitter chose to have a bit of fun with that statistic and it quickly went viral.
“Today’s attendance is 38,764, including 774 Man City fans,” they captioned an image of their own supporters inside the ground.
They knew exactly what they were doing with that one. Despite being of the most successful clubs in England over the last decade, City are regularly mocked for their perceived lack of fans worldwide.
Social media has had its say and they’ve joined in the mocking of City.
One person commented: “Proof in the pudding why win, lose or draw City will never be anywhere near as big as United.”
Another put: “Sevilla have done City dirty with this one.”
Someone tweeted: “I thought this was a parody account.”
While a fourth added: “I love how petty this is, when they were getting destroyed as well.”

Foden showed some nifty footwork in the second half to shimmy away from Nemanja Gudelj and fire a left-footed effort past Bono to double City’s lead.
Haaland finished off a slick move nine minutes later for his 25th Champions League goal in just 20 games, before Dias turned home Joao Cancelo’s cross in added time to seal all three points.
Guardiola was quick to pay tribute to Haaland’s in his post-match interview, calling the 22-year-old’s eye for goal ‘incredible’.
He told reporters: “His numbers all his career, even previous teams, is quite similar. He has an incredible sense of goal. We have incredible numbers in terms of goals and need to continue.”
