The VAR official for Monday’s Merseyside derby between Liverpool and Everton has been changed just hours before kick-off.
John Brooks was due to be on VAR duties for the match at Anfield but he has now been replaced after making a huge error in Crystal Palace’s 1-1 draw with Brighton on Saturday.
He wrongly disallowed Pervis Estupinan’s goal for offside leading to Howard Webb, the head of the Premier League referees, to apologise.
Brooks has now been taken off VAR duties for the Merseyside derby, as well as Wednesday’s crucial match between title rivals Arsenal and Manchester City.
The Sun’s John Cross confirmed the change, tweeting: “From PGMOL… John Brooks has been replaced as VAR for both Liverpool v Everton tonight and Arsenal v Manchester City on Weds.
“Andre Marriner and David Coote will assume VAR duties in his place tonight and Weds respectively.
“Other appointments announced tomorrow.”
