Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) returns to its APEX facility in Las Vegas, Nevada, for the UFC Vegas 69 mixed martial arts (MMA) event TONIGHT (Sat., Feb. 18, 2023), streaming LIVE on ESPN+. UFC Vegas 69 will be headlined by the 125-pound showdown between Top 10-ranked flyweight contenders Jessica Andrade and Erin Blanchfield. Before that five-round clash of styles gets underway, former The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) standout, Zac Pauga, looks to bounce back into the win column by turning away Contender Series veteran, Jordan Wright, in UFC Vegas 69’s co-main event. Elsewhere on the card, long-time lightweight bruiser, Jim Miller, keeps plugging along against the venerable, Alexander Hernandez.

Round 1: Prachnio popping Knight with kicks in the early going. Solid body kick. Quick jab, low kicks. One minute in. Knight yet to offer any offense as Prachnio chips away at him. More low kicks from Prachnio. Head kick just misses. Two minutes in. Body kick. Knight plodding around the cage and doing very little to dissuade Prachnio from enjoying target practice. Two minutes to go.

Prachnio continuing to chew up Knight’s legs, limiting his time in the pocket to keep Knight from throwing counters. More low kicks piling up with a minute to go. Knight occasionally trying a half-hearted punch or oblique kick to no effect. 10-9 Prachnio.

Round 2: Prachnio chopping up the legs with no response from Knight. Glancing head kick. More low kicks. One minute in. Brazilian kick blocked, low kick is not. Knight is literally making no effort to stop this. As I say that, he hits Prachnio with a low kick hard enough to spin him around. Prachnio responds with two more low kicks and a head kick. Two minutes in. Knight’s moment of success appears to have done nothing to lift his spirits, as Prachnio just goes right back to chopping him down. Two minutes to go.

More leg kicks. Knight finally tries to catch one, but can’t keep hold. Hey, he’s actually moving forward for once. One minute to go. Aaaaand Knight’s right back to backing up and getting leg kicked. Prachnio tries to sneak in a head kick in the waning seconds. 10-9 Prachnio.

Round 3: We now continue your regularly scheduled broadcast: leg kicks from Prachnio. There’s a nice head kick a minute in. Knight waggles his finger, but that’s the closest thing to offense or defense he’s shown in a while. Both throw leg kicks for once, then Prachnio adds another low kick to visible effect. Prachnio wheel kick just misses. Two minutes in. Low kick from Knight; the sad thing is that these are probably about twice as heavy as Prachnio’s, but he doesn’t care enough to throw them. Knight catches a kick, can’t use it. Prachnio, for his part, just keeps kicking him. Prachnio slips after Knight catches a kick, pops up before Knight can capitalize. Two minutes to go.

More Prachnio leg kicks. Knight just leaning against the fence, eats a Brazilian kick for his trouble. One minute to go. Knight continuing to laze against the fence as Prachnio lands leg kick after leg kick. Another glancing Brazilian kick. Wheel kick attempt, then a spinning back kick attempt. Genuinely one of the worst performances in recent memory from Knight. 10-9 Prachnio.

155 lbs.: Alex Hernandez vs. Jim Miller

Round 1: Hernandez looking quick to start. Inside low kick. Miller tries a 1-2, falls short. Brief pause to deal with an eye poke from Hernandez. One minute in. Hard low kick from Miller. Hernandez tries a head kick, absorbs a three-piece from Miller. Miller follows with a head kick and tries to tee off on the fence. Hernandez gets away, resets, and puts together his own combo. Trading low kicks. Hernandez hops in with a knee to the body. Two minutes in. Big blitz from Miller, two-piece from Hernandez in return. Hernandez body kick, eats a straight left soon after. Hernandez lands a head kick as Miller looks for a low kick. Quick punches by Hernandez. Head kick attempt with two minutes to go.

Straight right from Hernandez, 1-2 comes back at him. Nice check hook catches Miller coming in. Body kick exchange. They trade two-pieces and Miller follows with some shots on the fence. Lots of pressure from Miller. One minute to go. Head kick from Miller blocked. Hernandez backs him off with a 1-2. Miller low kick catches Hernandez in the jewels, prompting a pause. Both fire straights when they resume. Hernandez tries a head kick. 10-9 Hernandez.

Round 2: Short left hook and head kick from Hernandez. Miller tries to force him back, lands a body shot, tries to catch a kick. Hernandez circles out of a charge. Hernandez seems to havev found his groove on the feet. Step-in knee and body shot by Hernandez a minute in. Hard counter right. Counter left by Miller. Uppercuts from Miller but he’s a step behind this round. Body kick from Hernandez two minutes in. Miller tries a head kick. Hernandez body kick, Miller straight left. Straight right and boy kick from Hernandez. Miller falls well short with a Superman punch and is too slow to counter the straight that comes back at him. Two minutes to go.

Right hand and knee by Hernandez. Miller tries a head kick. Lead elbow and knee by Hernandez. Hernandez in full control at this point. There’s a solid blitz from Miller, who eats a counter elbow and 1-2. Another elbow by Hernandez with a minute to go. Miller to the body. decent uppercut from Miller in combination. Hernandez digs another knee to his body in return. Picking his shots, lands another hard body kick. 10-9 Hernandez.

Round 3: Both open the round strong Miller’s really wearing the damage at this point. Good inside low kick as I type that. Big exchange, both land clean. Miller putting on the pressure and he cracks Hernandez with a straight left before tying up. Hernandez reverses, avoids a guillotine a minute in. Hernandez trying to get it back with clean punches, eats low kicks. Hernandez to the body, nice knee and straight right. Another low kick from Miller, eats a lengthy combo two minutes in. Hernandez picking his shots again. Miller still looking to pressure. Hernandez landing well off the back foot. Now Hernandez bullies his way in and lands a hard right hook to back Miller off. Two minutes to go.

Another knee from Hernandez. Counter elbow. Miller wading after him but can’t pin him down. Hard body kick by Hernandez. Straight right met by a right hook from Miller. One minute to go. Hernandez throws a head kick as Miller throws a low kick and winds up slipping, allowing Miller to take the back and wrap up an RNC. The angle isn’t there and Hernandez takes top position, blasting away until the bell. Hell of a fight. 10-9 Hernandez, but you could argue the first and third for Miller. Probably not, but you could.

Final result: Hernandez def. Miller by unanimous decision


155 lbs.: Evan Elder vs. Nazim Sadykhov

Round 1: Sadykhov advancing, Elder circling. Nice straight left by Elder after they trade kicks. Another quick straight right. Spinning back fist met by a body shot from Sadykhov a minute in. More pressure from Sedykhov, who cracks him with a right hook and just misses on a head kick before denying a shot. Elder still sticking and moving well. Two minutes in. Long straight left by Sadykhov. Spinning back kick falls short, straight left does not. Elder shoots, denied. He comes back with an overhand right that drops Sadykhov, who pops up and waves him on. Sadykhov back on the advance. Body kick on the fence. Two minutes to go.

Lead uppercut by Sadykhov. Elder still getting the better of it with in-and-out strikes. Elder to the body, overhand right. Knee inside. Straight left by Sadykhov with a minute to go. Elder body kick. He shoots, denied. 1-2 from Sadykhov in return. Elder cracks him with a counter hook, then a body shot and knee. Sadykhov takes a finger in the eye. He marches right back into the pocket and they get back to trading. Both land hard against the fence. 10-9 Elder.

Round 2: Getting right back to it. Nice overhand right by Elder. 3-2, lands a knee, eats a short left hand. Man, this is too fast for me to properly recap. One minute in. Elder still holding a slight edge on the feet, and he makes his life easier by hitting a double-leg. Sadykhov trying to use the fence to stand, does so. Elder lifts, lands a knee. Two minutes in. Good control from Elder against the fence. Firing knees. More knees. He changes levels, but it lets Sadykhov out. Trading hands. Elder to the body. Two minutes to go.

Right hook lands for Sadykhov. Elder to the body. Again. Sadykhov pops him with a straight left, then a right hook. Low-high 3-2 stings Elder. Elder wades back inside. Blast double by Sadykhov with a minute to go. Elder works back to his feet and separates before attacking the body. Knee from Sadykhov. More body work by Elder, who eats a head kick. He puts Sadykhov back on the fence and fires knees. 10-9 Sadykhov, barely.

Round 3: Hard straight left from Sadykhov to start, then a body kick behind it. Elder shoots, eats a knee for his trouble. Hard body kick from Sadykhov. Elder tries to tie up, fires a knee, eats a bigger one in return. On the break, the ref pauses to look at a gargantuan cut on Elder’s eyebrow and the doctor immediately tells him to wave it off. That cut’s big enough to fit your pinky in, so as disappointing as it is, that’s a fair call.

Final result: Sadykhov def. Elder by TKO (cut stoppage)


135 lbs.: Mayra Bueno Silva vs. Lina Lansberg

Round 1: Both land low kicks to start, then Lansberg lands an eye poke. Silva fires a spinning back kick as she stalks forward. Nice body shot falls short. Body kicks. Lansberg puts together a combo, eats a low kick and body kick. One minute in. Quick hook by Lansberg, elbow on the break. Silva answers with a low kick and a pair of body kicks that seem to sting Lansberg. Head kick attempt to calf kick. More body work by Silva, who’s looking better than ever so far. Lansberg ties up, eats a knee two minutes in. Knee from Lansberg, elbow from Silva. Trading knees inside. Elbow from Silva on the break. Another body kick. Lansberg ties up and sneaks in an uppercut. Both land knees before they break. More low kicks from Silva, who absorbs a glancing overhand. Spinning back kick with two minutes to go.

1-2-elbow by Lansberg. She hauls Silva to the fence and goes to work with knees. They move around the Octagon in the clinch until Silva changes levels. She wrenches Lansberg down with a minute to go. Looking to get through the half guard. 10-9 Bueno Silva.

Round 2: Lansberg trying to march into the clinch as Silva meets her with strikes. Lansberg gets a bit too eager and gets hit by an outer reap, putting Silva on top in half guard. One minute in. Silva staying heavy from the top, offering a lot of shoulder pressure. Two minutes in. Silva trying to steadily work her way to mount, makes it to Lansberg’s back with two minutes to work.

Solid elbows from the top. Full body triangle with a minute to go. Lansberg manages to spin into top position and stand, but when she tries to dive back in, Silva snatches up a kneebar to force the tap.

Final result: Bueno Silva def. Lansberg by submission (kneebar)


145 lbs.: Jamall Emmers vs. Khusein Askhabov

Round 1: Looping right lands for Emmers, then a teep behind it. Askhabov out of range for the next 1-2. Overhand right to level change for Askhbabov, who puts Emmers on the fence. Askhabov fires a knee that strays low a minute in. Emmers takes a minute to recover, then avoids a wheel kick when they resume. Heavy low kicks from both men. Another nice low kick by Askhabov, who lunges after him with a left that falls short. Both largely staying at range and looking to explode in when they can. Three low kicks from Emmers in sequence two minutes in. Emmers ducks an overhand left, can’t secure the clinch, eats a side kick. Another hard low kick by Askhabov. Another kicks off a close-range exchange. Two minutes to go.

Emmers blitz, can’t land, settles for a leg kick. Another low kick as Askhabov tries to attack. Wild swings from both, neither lands clean. Emmers tries to shoot after ducking a wheel kick, no dice. One minute to go. Emmers doing a good job of slipping out of reach after landing his leg kicks. Wild spinning back fist falls short. He shoots, rebuffed, eats a knee and overhand right. Another whiffed wheel kick from Askhabov, who eats a right at the bell. 10-9 Emmers.

Round 2: Lead right from Emmers, who avoids the return fire. Askhabov swings big after denying a takedown, eats a leg kick, and tries his own. They’re really struggling to land clean punches at range. Clinch upeprcuts from Emmers a minute in. More low kicks from Emmers, then a clean straight right. Nice body shot. Askhabov shoots, pulls guard, then fires a heavy head kick from his back before returning to his feet. Good punches from both men. Tight right by Emmers, jab behind it. They’re starting to mix it up more two minutes in. It’s Emmers’ control of distance that’s defining the fight so far. Askhabov left hand, Emmers straight right. Emmers to the body, eats a leg kick. Emmers fakes a shot, then punishes a spinning back fist with a straight right that visibly stings Askhabov. Askhabov staying on his back as Emmers stands over him with a minute to go.

Emmers kicks at his legs, sneaks in a body shot. More leg kicks. Askhabov gets to his feet with a minute to go. Good exchange in close. Emmers stalking forward as Askhabov wings counters. Solid body kick from Emmers and a straight right in the final seconds. 10-9 Emmers.

Round 3: Askhabov shoots, denied. Solid punches inside. Emmers responds by slinging him to the mat from the clinch and looking to take top position. Full mount a minute in. Nice sweep by Askhabov to land on top. Emmers backs his way to the fence and counters the next shot with a whizzer. Again, and this time Askhabov seems to give up on it and surrender top position. Emmers looking for the crucifix. Askhabov trying to work his way free two minutes in. Emmers rides with him and retains side control. Full mount, then the back. Dropping hard punches, but Askhabov capitalizes on his posture to slip free and get to his feet with two minutes to go.

They tie up in the center. Hard shots from Emmers on the exit. Askhabov lands a tired-looking right hand. He’s definitely running on fumes as Emmers stalks forward. Another failed shot from Askhabov lets Emmers take top position and hunt a kimura. Front headlock, then side control with a minute to go. Full mount, then the back when Askhabov tries to bridge. Back to mount. High mount for Emmers, who locks up another kimura. Askhabov somehow maintains his grip until the bell. 10-8 Emmers.

Final result: Emmers def. Askhabov by unanimous decision


205 lbs.: Philipe Lins vs. Ovince Saint Preux

Round 1: Quick low kick from Saint Preux to start. Lins comes back with a straight left that has the veteran staggering back. Lins emptying the tank to try and get him out of there. Just as Saint Preux looks like he may have gotten his wits back, Lins drills him with another left hand against the fence that takes his legs out. Saint Preux tries to circle free and gets caught by a lunging left hook that finally sends him to the mat and brings the ref into action.

Final result: Lins def. Saint Preux by TKO (punches)


170 lbs.: A.J. Fletcher vs. Themba Takura Gorimbo

Round 1: Solid low kick from Gorimbo, then a quick reactive double-leg to land on top. Quick move to the back. Fletcher trying to get back to his feet a minute in. He manages to work his way into top half guard. Two minutes in, potential arm triangle setup. Short body shots. Nice move to mount. Gorimbo holding onto his upper body to try and keep him close. Fletcher gets enough space to drop some hard elbows with two minutes to go.

Fletcher showing solid balance as Gorimbo tries to buck his way free. Nice elbows. One minute to to. Gorimbo times a big swing to threaten a straight ankle lock. Now firing upkicks in the waning seconds. 10-9 Fletcher.

Round 2: Early shot from Gorimbo sets up a wild scramble. It’s Gorimbo who ends up on top as Fletcher threatens a front headlock. Gorimbo slips in a hook as he looks to take the back. Out of nowhere, Fletcher pops back to his feet and short-circuits Gorimbo with a point-blank elbow, then snatches up a guillotine as Gorimbo tries to shoot. He rolls him into mount and there’s the tap.

Final result: Fletcher def. Gorimbo by submission (guillotine choke)


125 lbs.: Clayton Carpenter vs. Juancamilo Ronderos

Round 1: Rapid-fire exchanges right off the bat. Ronderos breaks the rhythm with a takedown, avoiding a guillotine in the process to land in guard. Quick slam from Ronderos, then some solid lefts as Carpenter looks to threaten with submissions. One minute in. Ronderos continuing to work, but pushes his luck a bit too much and gets caught in a triangle. Impressive escape, only for Carpenter to sweep from the omoplata and land on top in half guard two minutes in. Carpenter slides his knee through and immediately latches onto Ronderos’ back when he turns to his knees. Full body triangle for Carpenter. RNC getting tighter and there’s the tap.

Final result: Carpenter def. Ronderos by submission (rear naked choke)
