Joao Felix has revealed how to properly pronounce his name and it turns out most of us have been saying it incorrectly all along.

Felix was something of a surprise arrival at Stamford Bridge in January, as Chelsea beat off competition from Manchester United and Arsenal to sign the Portuguese attacker on loan until the end of the season.

The 23-year-old has had a mixed start to life at Chelsea, having been shown a straight red card on his debut in a defeat to Fulham.

In his four appearances since he has looked good and looks to be enjoying his football after a difficult three-and-a-half years at Atletico Madrid, with Chelsea hopeful he can help them overcome a first-leg deficit to Borussia Dortmund in the last 16 of the Champions League.

Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s crucial meeting with Dortmund at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night – they trail 1-0 after the first leg – Felix was asked by a journalist how to correctly say his name.

Many English and Spanish fans incorrectly pronounce his name ‘Jow Fee-lix’ but the star revealed that it’s actually ‘Je-wow Feh-lix’.

“Everyone says ‘Fee-lix’, even in Spain, just in Portugal they say my correct name. I don’t know why, I don’t think it’s too hard,” Felix said.

When asked if the mispronunciation annoys him, Felix said: “Nah! I don’t care.”

He had a rocky relationship with fiery Atletico manager Diego Simeone and so it was decided it would suit all parties if he went out on loan.

If things pan out well over the next few months then Chelsea may look to sign Felix on a permanent deal in the summer. If he does return to the Premier League, then at least supporters will know how to pronounce his name correctly.
