Cristiano Ronaldo paid tribute to Her Majesty The Queen after the UK’s longest-serving monarch passed away peacefully on Thursday afternoon.

The Manchester United star wrote a touching post on his Instagram page on Friday, in which he expressed sadness after learning of her death and admitted he has felt the overwhelming adoration the UK has for the Queen during his two stints at the Red Devils.

He wrote: “Seven years of my career were played in the Premier League, making this my 8th season living in England.

“Throughout these years, I’ve felt the everlasting love of the UK for its Queen, and how important Her Majesty was and will forever be to the British people.

“I pay my respect to her memory and I mourn this irreplaceable loss with the country that I’ve learned to call home. My thoughts and prayers are with the Royal Family.”

The post received over 17k comments in under an hour, with many fans voicing their love for both Her Majesty and Ronaldo himself.

One user wrote: “She was truly a remarkable woman.”

Another added: “Rest In Peace Your Majesty.”

While a third posted: “This is why Cristiano Ronaldo is the GOAT.”

They will be hoping to bounce back from a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Real Sociedad at Old Trafford on Thursday.

Brais Mendez grabbed the only goal of the game from the penalty spot as the Spanish side ended United’s run of four straight wins.

Sheriff, meanwhile, comfortably swept aside Cypriot side Omonia, managed by former Celtic player and manager Neil Lennon, with a 3-0 scoreline.
