Fans can’t believe Pep Guardiola’s excuse for Manchester City’s 1-0 defeat to Spurs.
Rodrigo Hernandez gave the ball away cheaply and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg seized on the errant pass, before feeding Kane, who slotted past Ederson.
City have played five times at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and lost every single fixture, failing to score in all of their trips in a dismal run.
They were below par yet again and have now tasted defeat in their last three away games, failing to capitalise on Arsenal’s surprise defeat to Everton a day before.
It was a day to forget, with a lot going wrong in multiple departments. But Guardiola has hit headlines after bizarrely bringing up the journey from Manchester to London away games.
“Coming from Manchester to London, it’s like going to northern Europe,” Guardiola said.
“It’s 4 hours, 20 minutes – 4 and a half hours to get to a hotel. It’s so exhausting, I’m sorry. I’m sorry.”
Guardiola’s fellow manager Jurgen Klopp is known as the coach with the most outlandish excuses but his comments garnered a lot of reaction online.
One commented: P*** poor excuse. Sounds like Klopp. We have had 9 days and they’ll have traveled 1st class on the train.”
Another wrote: “He’s turning into Klopp.”
A third said: “Imagine coaching in the MLS the away travels would destroy him.”
A fourth opined: “If Klopp said this we’d never hear the end of it.”
