An English football fan in the Sporting end, wearing the Portuguese club’s kit, sang ‘Tottenham get battered everywhere they go,’ at the travelling Spurs fans, as you can see in the video below.

Spurs had a very welcoming return to the Champions League last week, when Richarlison’s late brace earned them a win against Ligue 1 Marseille.

However, just six days later, and things weren’t looking quite a rosey for Antonio Conte’s side, as they were on the wrong end of a 2-0 defeat by Sporting.

The chant by the Sporting ‘fan’ was popularised by supporters of Spurs’ rivals West Ham United and Arsenal and became quite the sensation last year.

The song could be heard almost constantly during last winter’s PDC World Darts Championship, that was when the fans weren’t booing anyone not from England, specifically Scottish players.

Asked on commentary if he thought Edwards was in line for a call up, former Three Lions’ midfielder Owen Hargreaves said, “How can he not when he’s playing like that?

“He’s playing as a false nine really well and can play as a number 10. He just takes the ball so well. I think there’s always a space for a player like that in the team.”

Still, at such a young age, the former Vitoria player still has plenty of time to push his cause for a future spot in an England squad.
