Danny Murphy has given his backing to a bizarre proposal for teams to also lose a player if their manager is sent off during a match.

Klopp reacted angrily when a foul was not given for a challenge on Mohamed Salah and was shown a straight red card by referee Anthony Taylor after berating assistant manager Gary Beswick.

Klopp later apologised for his behaviour and now faces the prospect of a ban after being charged by the Football Association.

But another radical idea has been floated; for teams to also lose a player if their manager is shown a red card.

Discussing the idea on talkSPORT, former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy said he supported it.

“Some of these ideas are preposterous but that really isn’t, because it impacts the game there and then,” said Murphy.

“You couldn’t do it where it would be captain, as someone suggested, as they would give someone less important the armband maybe.

“But if you brought that rule in, overnight managers’ behaviour would change more dramatically than anything else we’ve ever seen.”

The proposal has, unsurprisingly, been slammed by many football fans on social media.

“Worst idea ever,” wrote one fan on Twitter.

Another posted: “Talks***e strikes again..”

While a third wrote: “Why are they so keen to eradicate the humane & emotional side of footy?

“I don’t want a sanitised & robotic show. The absurdity of this ‘idea’!”
