chris-eubank-jr-vs.-conor-benn-is-off-following-failed-drug-test

The highly-anticipated showdown between Chris Eubank Jr vs. Conor Benn is officially OFF.

The all-British bout had been plunged into doubt following Benn’s failed drug test, having tested positive for a fertility drug.

However, Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn and Wasserman Boxing both claimed the fight would still go ahead even though Benn failed a drug test administered by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA).

But a day removed from Benn’s positive test, the O2 Arena headliner has now been called off.

Hearn and Kalle Sauerland of Wasserman Boxing released statements, confirming the postponement of Eubank Jr vs. Benn.

“After discussions with various parties, we have taken the decision to formally postpone the bout between Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn,” the statement read.

“It is undeniable that the British Boxing Board of Control’s decision to withdraw their sanctioning was procedurally flawed and without due process.

“That remains a legal issue between the promoters and the Board which we intend to pursue.

“However, whilst there are legal routes to facilitate the fight taking place as planned, we do not believe that it is in the fighters’ interests for those to be pursued at such a late stage, or in the wider interests of the sport.

“As promoters, we take our obligations and duties very seriously, and a full investigation will now need to take place.

“We will be making no further comment at this time and news for ticket holder refunds will follow.”

Eubank Jr, 33, hasn’t fought since his victory over Liam Williams last February.

As for Benn, he last fought in April when he stopped Chris van Heerden.

No new date has yet to be announced for Eubank Jr vs. Benn.
