Arsenal are interested in signing Brazilian wonderkid Vitor Roque from Athletico Paranaense this summer, according to reports, with sporting director Edu said to have already made contact.
The Premier League leaders are already plotting their summer transfers as they look to improve their squad even further so they can continue to challenge beyond this season.
Arsenal’s sporting director Edu is said to have enquired about a potential transfer, which could end up being expensive due to the player’s contract running until 2027.
Mikel Arteta has built a young squad during his reign as Arsenal manager and as a result, has gained a reputation for his development of young players.
This could give them an advantage in the race for Roque as he may look at the success of compatriot Gabriel Martinelli and be attracted to a move to the Emirates.
‘The next Luis Suarez’
It’s not just Premier League clubs that are fighting to sign Roque. Spanish outlet Spanish outlet Fichajes (via Daily Mail) claim that Barcelona recently opened negotiations with Paranaense.
Roque is so highly rated that he has already been compared with former Barca and Liverpool striker Luis Suarez due to his ‘killer instincts’ in the box.
The teenage sensation has made 36 appearances for the Brazilian outfit since joining last year and has been directly involved in 10 goals during that time.
Barcelona remain confident that they will be able to strike a deal for the winger to join in the summer, but the lure of the Premier League will make it difficult.
Several players have made the move from South America to Europe and experienced success, but just as many have failed to perform.
Regular game time will be vital for Roque’s success, and it is claimed that will be a key factor when he decides the identity of his next club.
