Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has given an injury update on forward Eddie Nketiah after he limped off the pitch following their 4-0 win over Everton on Wednesday.

The Gunners extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table to five points over second-placed Manchester City after playing their game in hand.

Bukayo Saka opened the scoring for the hosts on 40 minutes, with Gabriel Martinelli adding a second goal in first half stoppage time.

Martin Odegaard made it 3-0 on 71 minutes, with Martinelli rounding off the scoring on 80 minutes.

But at the end of the game, Nketiah was spotted limping off the field, leading to some concern that the 23-year-old may be injured.

Speaking after the game, Arteta gave an update on the status of the forward.

Arteta gives Nketiah injury update

The Spaniard explained that Nketiah, who made his appearance from the bench, was carrying an injury prior to the game kicking off – but it is not thought to be serious.

He said: “Hopefully he is fine. He ended the game well but he has been carrying a little thing.”

The forward dropped to the bench for Saturday’s 1-0 win over Leicester, with Arteta confirming that he needed a rest: “We’ve got three games in a very short period. We need everyone fresh.

“Eddie has been carrying a little thing in the last few games too.”

Following the knee injury suffered by Gabriel Jesus during the World Cup, Nketiah has been a mainstay in the Gunners lineup as their lead centre forward.

The arrival of Leandro Trossard, who replaced Nketiah against Leicester, in January has provided Arteta’s side with an extra option up front, while the club are said to be hopeful of Jesus returning before this month’s international break, as per

But a severe injury to Nketiah would still deal Arsenal a significant blow as they look to cement their advantage at the top of the Premier League until the end of the season.
